Product Features

True Mechanical Fail-Safe (Spring Return)
The Bettis™ RTS uses a mechanical spring-return design to guarantee fail-safe action upon power loss or signal drop — no need for batteries, super capacitors or external backup. This ensures valves reliably move to their safe position even under emergency conditions.
Excellent for Both Modulating and On/Off Service
RTS actuators support both simple on/off (S2) and continuous modulation (S9) duty — making them suitable for either binary or precise process control applications. For modulating service, the mechanism offers high position resolution (≤ 0.1%), delivering very precise control over valve positioning.

Brushless DC Motor with Variable Frequency Drive – Continuous Modulation Capable
The actuator drives valves using a brushless DC motor controlled by a variable frequency drive (VFD). This enables continuous modulation (S9 duty), adjustable opening/closing speeds, and reliable modulatory operation — even in demanding, high-cycle environments.
Adjustable Open/Close Speeds & Configurable Thrust/Torque
Thanks to the VFD and smart control electronics, both opening and closing speeds are adjustable — allowing tuning to match process requirements and minimize mechanical stress. For example, the linear (FL-series) version can deliver up to ~12 kN modulating thrust and up to ~25 kN (5,620 lbs-ft) switch-off thrust, depending on model.
SIL 3 Capable
RTS actuators are certified for use in safety-instrumented systems, offering the integrity level required for critical shutdown and safety applications. This certification provides operators with confidence that the actuator meets stringent functional safety standards for high-consequence process environments.
Multiple Configurations: Linear, Quarter-Turn, Multi-Turn, Compact
The RTS portfolio supports a variety of valve and application types — including linear (stem motion), quarter-turn (e.g., ball/plug/butterfly valves), multi-turn, and compact actuator designs — giving operators flexibility to meet diverse field requirements while maintaining consistent performance and safety standards across different valve configurations.
Smart Local Interface with Diagnostics, Monitoring & Configuration
RTS includes DCMlink, an integrated local user interface and control unit that supports configuration, monitoring, diagnostics, and data logging. Many models offer Bluetooth®-enabled wireless connectivity for setup or parameter changes and can also be integrated with the Emerson AMS suite

The operation at the barge required high safety standards to ensure the shut off of the tank farm from the loading rack in case of fire or chemical release. The RTS Fail-Safe Quarter-turn (FQ) with true mechanical spring return and fail-safe action that could be controlled via an external power supply proved to be a right fit for this application.

Used as an energy source in urban buildings, the district heating and cooling distribution for pressure and level control require high resolution modulation and speed control. The RTS Compact Multi-turn (CM) was able to achieve 0.1% resolution with S9 continuous modulation operation mode.

Upstream Oil & Gas - Gas/Oil Water Separation
High frequency modulation rates for gas / oil water separation supporting production fields requiring high precision resolution. The RTS Compact Linear (CL) electric actuator was able to achieve 0.2% resolution at very fast stroke times of 1-2 sec.
