Challenge

Faced with outdated biotech equipment, the customer needed to upgrade their bioreactors and gain modern data acquisition capabilities, providing them with the best tools available for new medicine discovery.

This project included retrofitting 40 Braun bioreactors with new Bradley James bioreactor equipment. The retrofit included a new DeltaV software package to control the bioreactors and provide integration with a PI data historian.

Bioreactor mechanical/electric design and build
Control system utilized foundation fieldbus and device net technologies
Startup support, including DeltaV platform installation and qualification software debug

Results

With software development and testing delivered prior to site startup date, scientists are successfully using bioreactors and collecting valuable process data for drug profiles.
