Scallon Controls Saves Local Chemical Plant Big $ on Gas Costs
When the "Boiler Experts" from Scallon Controls applied their expertise and a new DeltaV control system to the package boilers at a local chemical plant, they were able to reduce gas costs and cut the excess of O2 in half! For those not familiar with boiler controls, excess O2 is the measurement used to quantify the efficiency of a boiler and its use of fuel. The lower the O2 in the exhaust gas the more efficient the boiler is operating. When a local chemical plant informed the Scallon Controls sales and
systems integration team of Scott Briggs and Randy Cook that they were seeing a O2 reading of 7%, the guys determined that they could develop and implement a control scheme that would cut this in half. With the cost of Natural Gas today, that provided an estimated $400,000 in real savings in the first year of operation! If you are spending
too much on gas for your boilers, give us a call and we will be glad to perform a site survey to help you justify the improvements in control technology that you need to help you save money.
Double Block and Bleed in One Valve Reduces Project Costs
A local refinery ran into some big cost issues when evaluating valves for Unit Isolation Protection. They needed the ability to block pipeline flow from either direction and provide a test point to validate that there was no leakage to meet the safety requirements set for the project. The pipelines would be connecting the refinery with a chemical plant located next door and would be carrying volatile hydrocarbon products. Scallon Controls' Quarter Turn Specialist Mark Runion and Account Manager Joe Becnel identified the key issues and supplied Argus metal seated valve assemblies that have the full double block and bleed capability designed into a single ball valve. The reduced flanging and piping requirements along with the simplicity of a single device design reduced the engineering effort for both piping and controls while providing
a very cost effective solution. The valves were automated by Scallon Controls using Bettis pneumatic fail-safe actuators with Westlock limit switches, Asco solenoids and other accessories. If you have a need for fire safe, tight shut off isolation or Emergency Shutdown Valves, contact your Scallon Account Manager or give us a call.
